  • New York City is the crossroads of the world, and representative of the cultural diversity in the city is the many varieties of cuisine available to visitors and locals alike. From twists on American cuisine to tandoori, the city’s restaurants offer the best food from all over the globe. Sampling these offerings is an experience in and of itself, and we recommend you spend some of your time in the city visiting these highly diverse -- and excellent -- restaurants.

Since 1963, the family-run Victor’s Cafe has been consistently serving fine authentic Cuban cuisine like roast suckling pig, paella, and tropical sangria. All summer long, on Wednesday nights from 5:30pm until closing, they will be offering their signature margaritas for $8 in their Cuba Lounge. And if you can’t make it to Victor’s on a Wednesday, be sure to visit the Cuba Lounge on Friday and Saturday nights, when they host live music. 236 W. 52nd St. (Broadway-Eighth Ave.), 212-586-7714; victorscafe.com.

Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House pulsates with the rhythm and energy of Midtown with its soaring, two-story-high windows that offer a spectacular view of Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, and the parade of pedestrians along Sixth Avenue, making it the ultimate choice for celebrating a special occasion. The menu tells much of the restaurant’s story: Its fresh, not frozen, USDA aged prime beef is shipped in from the Midwest twice a week but Del Frisco’s isn’t about red meat alone. Lobster, fish, lamb, osso buco, and veal chops receive equal billing. Del Frisco’s recently unveiled a new program rewards patrons for every dollar spent at any Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group venue nationwide, including all Sullivan’s locations, with prizes that include gift cards, and wine dinners. For more information on the program, visit delfriscos.com/rewards.php. 1221 Sixth Ave. at 49th St., 212-575-5129; delfriscos.com.

Walking into Dave & Buster’s Times Square is not unlike strolling into Coney Island during its heyday, with the Million Dollar Midway and its virtual speedways, skeeball, basketball tosses, shuffle board tables, and high-tech amusements -- but the food is far better than its theme-restaurant counterparts. They take pride in their eclectic American fare, which includes great steaks, seafood and pasta, chicken and ribs, and more. Plus, with more than 50 signature drinks, it’s a great place to grab a cocktail. And all summer long, it’s 1/2-price games on Wednesdays from open until close. 234 W. 42nd St., 646-495-2015; daveandbusters.com.

Established in Milan in 1926, with 40 restaurants worldwide, Bice Ristorante looks like an upscale, prestigious restaurant should: Polished wood French doors open to the sidewalk; muted, indirect lighting flows from wall sconces; banquettes line the walls; fine glass partitions separate the bar area from the main dining room; waiters and captains in white jackets roam the room; and the tables are filled with well-heeled, knowing New Yorkers and tourists. The cuisine is a sumptuous combination of traditional and new trends in Italian cuisine. Its knowledgeable clientele seeks it out for superior versions of beloved Italian fare: top-of-the-line ingredients, refined dishes, light-touch cooking, seamless service, and, most of all, consistency. 7 E. 54th St. btw. Madison & Fifth Aves., 212-688-1999; bicenewyork.com.

In the market for a family-oriented steak house that is perfect for pre-theatre dining? Look no further than Broadway Joe Steak House. This steak emporium is just three blocks from the Times Square and the Theater District, and in the center of it all the action. Broadway Joe caters to the stars of movie and television, as well as local sports celebrities. 315 W. 46th St., 212-246-6513; broadwayjoesteakhouse.com.

If you’re going to the theater and are looking for a great spot for Italian cuisine, head over to Da Rosina, located on Restaurant Row. They offer a very charming atmosphere and very affordable prix-fixe specials from the entire menu. Their $30 prix-fixe dinner includes your choice of any appetizer or soup or salad, any main course, and any dessert, including tea or coffee. 342 W. 46th St. btw. Eighth & Ninth Aves., 212-977-7373; darosina.com.

Don’t miss this boat if you want to see the city from a different angle while enjoying terrific cuisine: Spirit Cruises offers views of the NYC skyline to complement their high-end dining experience. Take your choice of harbor cruise ships: The glass-enclosed Bateaux is known for fine gourmet selections; the Spirit of New York provides a party atmosphere with a buffet, live DJs, and more. Chelsea Piers, Pier 62, W. 23rd St. at the Hudson River, 212-727-7768; entertainmentcruises.com.
