It features 300 works, including the Museum's complete holdings of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and ceramics by Picasso - never before seen in their entirety - as well as a selection of the artist's prints. The Museum' collection reflects the full breadth of the artist's multi–sided genius as it asserted itself over the course of his long and influential career. Notable for its remarkable constellation of early figure paintings, which include the commanding At the Lapin Agile (1905) and the iconic portrait of Gertrude Stein (1906), the Museum's collection also stands apart for its exceptional cache of drawings, which remain relatively little known, despite their importance and number. The key subjects that variously sustained Picasso's interest - the pensive harlequins of his Blue and Rose periods, the faceted figures and tabletop still lifes of his cubist years, the monumental heads and classicizing bathers of the 1920s, the raging bulls and dreaming nudes of the 1930s, and the rakish cavaliers and musketeers of his final years - are amply represented by works ranging in date from a dashing self-portrait of 1900 (Self–Portrait "Yo") to the fanciful Standing Nude and Seated Musketeer painted nearly seventy years later.

He blunders his way through a world which struggles to comprehend his unique talents and rural Irish ways, encountering a series of ruthless characters who exploit his fighting skills for their own means. The Magic Pot: Three Tales from China is an original musical for kids, performed by kids, about a young girl who finds herself in the middle of ancient tales, and her own extraordinary adventure, that teach her about life, honesty, and true happiness. It is a first-time co-commission with the SteppingStone Theater in St. Paul, MN after Nina Trevens met SteppingStone Theatre's Artistic Director Richard Hitcher at a conference in 2008. Integral to the development of this a new piece of theater, and a main purpose of this collaboration, is the Youth Theater Exchange Project wherein 19 members of TADA!'s The Magic Pot cast travelled to St. Paul, MN to see SteppingStone's production. Similarly, the young actors from SteppingStone's production will come to New York during TADA!'s production. Says Trevens, "This will be such a unique opportunity for TADA! Ensemble Members, as most of them have not been to the mid-west. They will meet and experience the lives of kids from a very different part of the country who are actually very similar to them due to their shared passion for theater."

Summer Group Show of Innovative Artists At Axelle Fine Arts Galerie - Axelle Fine Arts Galerie
Through August 07, 2010 -

Axelle Fine Arts Galerie is pleased to present a summer group installation featuring Albert Hadjiganev, Francois Bard, and Brian Stephens from July 20, 2010 until August 7, 2010. Albert Hadjiganev captures the simple moments of daily life with only a few elements. In approaching a canvas, he reflects, "I do not know what is to come; it is the canvas that decides... I become very small." Hadjiganev freely transfigures reality to create a mysterious environment filled with grace; depicting landscapes, interiors and nudes, he invites the viewer to experience their depth and intimacy. His choice technique and deep sensitivity allow him to "put his heart in his paintings" and invites the viewer to meditate and dream. In essence Hadjiganev believes in allowing his work to reflect his philosophy on life, "One does not need to say too much to say it all." Francois Bard experiences a magnificent dimension when observing his subject and is determined to represent the physical and metaphysical in each work. Bard's bold canvases demonstrate his fascination for the horizon, which recalls the vast limits of human existence and expresses the light and dark, the seen and unseen. His subject matters are an endless exercise of composition, rhythm and struggle that involve multiple layers of oil and medium. The result provides an in-depth work, where one can experience the complexity of what is known and unknown and question the vitality of each theme. There is freshness to Bard's paintings that are particularly impressive due to a paucity of sentimentality and lack of being cliché. Brian Stephens interprets the rural landscapes of Connecticut with its inhabitants. Continuously inspired by his environment, Stephens depicts animals with a humanistic quality. His figures at time approach the viewer from a layered abstract background of varied horizontal vantage points. This allows the viewer to connect to the balance he represents in nature between animals, figures, and/or children. Working with a palette knife, Stephens manipulates the layered paint's texture to create movement amongst his subjects. Further, he explores a type of patterned texture with the use of imprinted circles of various sizes. These impressions create various focal points for the observer and one may take in the balance in his compositions.

Tony is currently working under the wing of director Terry Johnson on the Broadway revival of La Cage aux Folles through the SDC Observership Program, and is being courted for a full-time position with the show. This is the festival's third year at the Producers' Club, where it is warmly hosted by Freddie and Ernest Tollja. The CringeFest is supported in part by the Dramatists Guild of America, corporate funders, and individual donors. From the get-go, this festival has intrigued the press & media: coverage has appeared in The New York Times Sunday Arts & Leisure section, New York magazine, TimeOutNY, and many more publications. The coverage has provided tremendous exposure for a great number of artists: 50 in the first festival, 300 in the last one. The house is packed nearly every night with producers, press/ media people, and a large/growing audience of locals and tourists. Renowned writers, composers, directors, and actors take part and some have been in several festivals.

NY Artists Unlimited is a 28 year old nonprofit organization that provides theatre and art to under-served audiences. The company is supported in part by the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Nancy Quinn Fund, Puffin Foundation, Dramatists Guild Fund, corporate and individual contributors. The festival lends a hand in supporting the mission to serve the community. Movers 'n shakers behind this insanity are: Melba LaRose, Artistic Director; Bill & Anita Brown, associate producers from Shooting Star Theatre; Court Sweeting, Technical Director, plus myriad interns and volunteers that make the whole thing happen.
