My Mother Had Two Faces
The Gabor sisters were the original Kardashians. Zsa Zsa, Ava and Jolie Gabor were glamorous and beautiful influencers of another era, and it was their standard of beauty that Karin Trachtenberg’s Swiss immigrant mother revered and imitated. Karin’s multi-media solo show, My Mother Has Two Faces, dives into her mother’s diaries to experience how her fixation with beauty and outward appearances influenced Karin’s sense of worth.
A humorous and poignant journey of self-reflection, this autobiographical fable dares to expose what lies beneath the mask of the perfect mother. Employing mixed media, masks and a dose of Buddhist philosophy, My Mother Has Two Faces delves into the complicated Mother-Daughter bond in a love letter to all our mothers.
